Falcons training camp 2026 is live: Day 1 in Flowery Branch

The offseason is over when the parking lot at IBM Performance Field fills up before sunrise. That happened Wednesday in Flowery Branch.

The schedule: closed today, fans Friday

Rookies reported July 24. Veterans checked in Tuesday, July 28. The first full-team practice was Wednesday, July 29 — closed to the public.

The first open session is Friday, July 31 at IBM Performance Field (season-ticket members; gates open one hour before the 9:15 a.m. start). From there, Atlanta has 10 more fan-accessible practices through Aug. 20, including Saturday Night Lights at Lanier High School on Aug. 8 and joint sessions with Indianapolis before the Aug. 22 preseason game.

Camp runs through Aug. 20. Everything that matters about this roster gets decided in that window.

Day 1 reality check

This is the first training camp of the Kevin Stefanski era — with Matt Ryan as president of football and Ian Cunningham as GM. New leadership, same division that has been sitting there for three years waiting for someone to take it.

What we know after Wednesday's open:

• Quarterback room is thin. Tua Tagovailoa is sidelined with a back flare-up. Michael Penix Jr. is not cleared for team drills. Cooper Rush was signed hours into camp. The position we spent all offseason debating is now being held together with veteran stopgaps and a UDFA rookie.
• Pass rush is short-handed. DeAngelo Malone, Zach Harrison, and rookie Anterio Thompson are not practicing. That was already the roster's loudest concern; camp cannot answer it until those bodies are on the field.
• The trenches have questions. Jawaan Taylor on PUP leaves the offensive line rotation unsettled on Day 1.

None of this kills the vibes. It does mean the first padded practice — when one-on-ones actually matter — cannot come soon enough.

What to watch before the preseason

1. Offensive identity — does the play-calling match the weapons?
2. Pass rush — can the front four win without scheme help?
3. Secondary depth — who wins the cornerback pecking order behind the starters?

The difference between July 10 and July 29 is that we are no longer previewing. We are watching.
