Hawks 2026-27 schedule is out: Orlando first, 7 p.m. tips, and the Dort era on the clock

Atlanta opens in Orlando on Oct. 21, hosts Houston the next night after Charlotte, and weekday home games now tip at 7 p.m. — the first full calendar of the Lu Dort Hawks.

The last Hawks post here was the Risacher-for-Dort trade. The roster pivot is no longer a rumor. The schedule is the first thing you can actually circle.

NBA calendars dropped August 13. Atlanta opens Wednesday, October 21 at Orlando, plays at Charlotte that Friday, then opens State Farm on Saturday against the Houston Rockets. Weekday home games move to 7 p.m. local — down from the 7:30 habit — which is earlier endings and worse I-75 math.

The Dort Hawks, on paper

Summer business in one pile: Lu Dort and Ryan Nembhard in the three-team deal that sent Zaccharie Risacher to Dallas; Devin Carter from Sacramento; Aaron Wiggins from Oklahoma City; CJ McCollum extended; Jock Landale back on a one-year, $14 million deal; Jonathan Kuminga’s team option declined; draft night brought Kingston Flemings at 8, Zuby Ejiofor at 23, Henri Veesaar at 52.

Bleacher Report called the offseason “opportunistic.” That is a polite way of saying they answered the phone. A year after 46-36 and a playoff trip, this is a win-now wing defense with a different 2024 No. 1 pick in the rearview.

Kyle Korver leaving the front office (reported this week) is a separate story. It does not change October. It does tell you the front office that built this is not frozen in amber.

What the schedule is actually asking

Ten national TV games (ESPN, Prime, NBC/Peacock). Everything else is WANF and Peachtree Sports Network, free over the air, radio still on 92.9 The Game. NBA Cup knockout weeks in early December are the usual TBD hole in the PDF.

The interesting part is not “how many back-to-backs.” It is whether Dort’s minutes next to Jalen Johnson and Trae Young look like a defensive identity by Thanksgiving, or like a rental who guards the other team’s best wing while the offense still lives and dies on Trae’s gravity.

Flemings and Ejiofor will get October noise. Rotation minutes in a 7 p.m. home game against a real team are the only summer-league lie detector that matters, which is what we said in July.

7 p.m. is a basketball decision that Atlanta traffic will hate

Earlier tips mean weekday games end closer to a school night. They also mean you leave work at 5:30 or you miss tip. State Farm already had a late-arrival problem. The Hawks just made it official.

If you are dragging a crew downtown, plan like it is a Braves 7:15 — except now it is 7:00 and there is no seventh-inning stretch to forgive you.

Bird Gang bottom line

The Dort trade was the swing. The schedule is the exam date: Magic, Hornets, Rockets in three nights to open the year. No more “we’ll see in camp.” October 21 is on the wall. If you want a football Saturday in the meantime, pickembaby.com is live — the NBA card comes later.
